Morning
Prayers: |
| |
I Cannot Do This Alone
O God, early in the morning I cry to you.
Help me to pray
And to concentrate my thoughts on you:
I cannot do this alone.
In me there is darkness,
But with you there is light;
I am lonely, but you do not leave me;
I am feeble in heart, but with you there is help;
I am restless, but with you there is peace.
In me there is bitterness, but with you there is patience;
I do not understand your ways,
But you know the way for me…
Restore me to liberty,
And enable me to live now
That I may answer before you and before me.
Lord, whatever this day may bring,
Your name be praised.

At the Start of Day
This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Prayer for the Beginning of
the Day
O Lord, grant me to greet the coming day in peace,
help me in all things to rely upon your holy will.
In every hour of the day reveal your will to me.
Bless my dealings with all who surround me. Teach
me to treat all that comes to throughout the day
with peace of soul and with firm conviction that
your will governs all. In all my deeds and words,
guide my thoughts and feelings. In unforeseen
events, let me not forget that all are sent by
you. Teach me to act firmly and wisely, without
embittering and embarrassing others. Give me
strength to bear the fatigue of the coming day
with all that it shall bring. Direct my will,
teach me to pray. And you, yourself, pray in me.
Amen.

Morning Prayer
Lord in heaven,
please listen to all those
who are praying to you now.
Those who are sad and crying,
those who have lost friends and family.
Those who are alone
and frightened.
Help them to remember,
that you are there
and you are listening.
In Jesus' name, we pray.
Amen. |

St.Patrick Morning Prayer
I arise today
Through the strength of heaven;
Light of the sun,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of the wind,
Depth of the sea,
Stability of the earth,
Firmness of the rock.
I arise today
Through God's strength to pilot me;
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's way to lie before me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's hosts to save me
Afar and anear,
Alone or in a mulitude.
Christ shield me today
Against wounding
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.
I arise today
Through the mighty strength
Of the Lord of creation. |

Thy love guard me through the night
And wake me with the morning light.
Amen. |

Jesus tender
Shepherd hear me
Bless your little lamb tonight
Through the darkness
Be thou near me
Keep me safe till morning's light. |

Lord God,
send peaceful sleep
to refresh our tired bodies.
May your help always renew us
and keep us strong in your service.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Into your hands, O Lord, we commend our souls and bodies,
beseeching you to keep us this night under your protection
and strengthen us for our service on the morrow, for Christ's sake.
Amen.
Archbishop Laud (1573-1645) |

Almighty God, we give you thanks for surrounding us, as daylight
fades, with the brightness of the vesper light; and we implore you of
your great mercy that, as you enfold us with the radiance of this
light, so you would shine into our hearts the brightness of your Holy
Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Grant us, Lord, the lamp of charity which never fails, that it may
burn in us and shed its light on those around us, and that by its
brightness we may have a vision of that holy City, where dwells the
true and never-failing Light, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
O Lord God Almighty, as you have taught us to call the evening, the
morning, and the noonday one day; and have made the sun to know its
going down: Dispel the darkness of our hearts, that by your brightness
we may know you to be the true God and eternal light, living and
reigning for ever and ever. Amen.
Seek him who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns deep darkness into
the morning, and darkens the day into night; who calls for the waters
of the sea and pours them out upon the surface of the earth: The Lord
is his name. Amen.

and my will; all that I have and possess. You have given them to me;
to you, O Lord, I restore them. All things are yours: Dispose of them
according to your will. Give me your love and your grace; for this is
enough for me. |

Prayer for Strength in Old
Age
O Lord our God, under the shadow of Thy wings let us hope. Thou wilt
support us, both when little and even to gray hairs. When our strength
is of Thee, it is strength; but, when our own, it is feebleness. We
return unto Thee, O Lord, that from their weariness our soul may rise
towards Thee, leaning on the thing which Thou has created, and passing
on to Thyself, who hast wonderfully made them; for with Thee is
refreshment and true strength. Amen.
